As part of National Drug and Alcohol Facts week The Chippewa County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, with the support of FAN of Chippewa County, will be hosting a screening of "Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict" on January 23rd at the LSSU Arts Center. "Chasing the Dragon" is a documentary produced by the FBI and DEA to educate communities on the risks and harms related to opioid addiction. The film follows the first person accounts of individuals, and the family members of individuals, who have abused opioids. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion featuring local medical and legal professionals discussing how opioid abuse impacts our community on a local
level.
As a community leader we invite you to attend the screening and panel discussion. The film presents an opportunity to educate the community and dispel some of the misunderstandings surrounding
substance abuse. The post-film panel discussion will highlight some of the local impacts of opioid abuse that we see in Chippewa county, identify resources that are available to support individuals struggling with addiction and address how the community can work to reduce substance use through prevention
and treatment.
Enclosed please find a poster with more detailed information regarding the presentation. This event is free and open to the public. The film does contain some strong language and intense depictions of drug use, but the content is suitable for most high-school aged students and middle-school aged with parental supervision and/ or input.
