General Medicine

The Sault Tribe Health Division offers outpatient medical appointments for newborns through the elderly. We have family physicians, pediatricians and nurse practitioners. We care for acute needs, chronic medical conditions, and health promotion/disease prevention appointments. Some of our providers specialize in women's health, others in pediatrics. We offer many procedures such as wart treatments, simple skin excisions, toenail removal, colposcopy, IUD, endometrial biopsy, and LEEP. There are nurse-only appointments available for blood pressure checks, allergy injections, immunizations, injectable birth control, wound care, and ABI. OMT services are offered once a month.

We service Sault Tribe members, tribal employees, and Medicaid patients. We care for newborns through the elderly.

We encourage patients to have a primary care provider. This provider can help them prevent disease processes, and know them well should they get sick. We encouraged adults who are otherwise healthy to have a physical exam every five years. We encourage our patients who are on medications to be seen at least every six months, and more often as recommended by their primary care provider. Children are seen more frequently: At two months, four months, six months, nine months, 12 months, 15 months, two years, and each year thereafter. We encourage patients to call our appointment schedulers at 906-632-5230 Fax 906 632-5252. Routine appointments can be scheduled in this manner. If patients feel that their symptoms warrant an appointment sooner than can be provided, there’s always a nurse they can speak with who can help with this.

Dr. Christine Hamilton
Dr Christine Hamilton grew up in Grand Rapids, with many summers in the Sault visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She started working when she was still in grade school by helping clean and stock at her dad’s gas station. Later she took care of the horses at a family friends’ day camp. Then came “real” jobs, including car-hop, burger flipper, hotel cook, delivery truck driver, auto parts sales, and paramedic. It occurred to her that a career in medicine might work, which led to a DO degree from Michigan State University, and two years of primary care training after that. She had a family practice in northern Indiana for over 20 years, then worked in an Urgent Care setting for over 10 years. For some strange reason she thought a return to the UP would be a good idea, and here she is, working for the Sault Tribe. She loves it here, and hopes to stay for an extended time.
