Immunizations

Immunization Services

Childhood and adult immunizations are available thru the Tribal Clinics and Community Health Immunization Clinics.  The Health Program promotes immunizations as one of the most effective methods to prevent disease and illness in our Tribal populations

Childhood immunizations are obtained in the Tribal Clinics routinely as a part of the Well-Child exam and follow-up through the Nurse-only clinic.  The majority of childhood vaccine is obtained through the local Health Department Vaccine for Children (VFC) program.  We encourage parents to select a primary care provider (Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant) and schedule well-child exams on a regular basis based on their children’s age as recommended by the CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics and Family Practice.  During these visits immunizations are provided as indicated.  Routine childhood immunizations required include:

  • Hepatitis B
  • DTaP – Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis
  • Hib – Haemophilus influenza
  • PCV – Pneumococcal infections
  • IPV – Polio
  • RV – Rotavirus
  • MMR – Measles, Mumps, & Rubella
  • Varicella – Chicken pox
  • Hepatitis A
  • Meningococcal infections
  • Influenza – Flu shots

Adult vaccine is generally purchased through the Tribal Health pharmacy and made available to Tribal patients through a medical or nurse-only clinic visit.  The recommended vaccines for adults vary by age and risk factors and we encourage patients to talk to their provider or nurse.   Adult immunizations provided include:

  • Influenza – Flu shots
  • TD/Tdap – Tetanus & Dephtheria
  • PCV 13 or PPSV 23 – Pneumococcal infections
  • Zoster – Shingles vaccine
  • HPV – Human papillomavirus
  • MMR – Measles, Mumps, & Rubella

Community Health Nurses routinely schedule Flu shot clinics every fall at various locations near you.  We encourage you to ask about your immunization needs during your visits to the Health Clinic or Community Center to help prevent illness and disease.
