Dental Services

NOTICE:

The Sault Tribe Dental Department will be resuming walk-in emergency care beginning Monday November 21, 2022.   This will work as follows:

  • Patients with a dental emergency can arrive in person between the hours of 8-9 AM in Sault Ste. Marie and 7:30–9 AM in St. Ignace.  (Sault Ste. Marie patients should register on the 2nd floor before arriving on 3rd floor dental).  Emergency patients will be seen on a 1st come – 1st serve basis.  Depending on the number of patients needing to be seen and the number of dentists available, the wait time until seated in a treatment room will vary.   Patients might opt to or be asked to return the next day if the wait is too long.

  • Dental emergency time is set aside for pain, swelling and infection related to the teeth and gums and not meant for routine dental care.

Walk-in emergencies will be available starting on Monday November 21, 2022 for St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie.  In Manistique it is best to call to arrange for emergency care because of provider coverage uncertainty.

Dental Services available at the Sault Tribe dental clinics:  Exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, root canal therapy, crowns, extractions, dentures, and many other services are skillfully provided.
Your first visit will include the necessary x-rays and a thorough exam.  Other treatment will be provided at additional appointments.  We will provide as much treatment as possible at each appointment and will try to coordinate appointments in other areas of the clinics to the best of our ability (medical, optical, etc.)

We welcome Sault Tribe members to our three dental clinics:  Sault Ste. Marie, St. Ignace and Manistique.  We are also open to any member of a federally recognized tribe.  We see all ages of patients, from 0-99+.  Our goal is to help you learn as much as possible about your oral health (dental) care.  We want to prevent as much disease as possible.  And, we want you to take an active role in choosing the treatment you receive.  Our very knowledgeable staff will take the time to answer your questions.

The Sault Tribal Dental Program’s mission is to reduce oral disease in the community that we serve.  Those at highest risk of cavities or gum infections (periodontal disease) should actively seek a dental exam.  A healthy mouth improves your overall health and therefore those with health concerns (Diabetes, multiple medications, other systemic diseases etc.) can most benefit from routine dental care.  It is recommended that we do a first dental exam for your child before age 1.  Throughout life and even into senior years an annual dental exam (even if you lack natural teeth) will include an oral cancer screening and potentially prevent or detect numerous other problems.

Age 0-18:       New exam appointments are available every Monday beginning at 8:00 am; call anytime to check on availability or to be placed on a cancellation list.
Age 19-59:     New exam appointments are available every Monday beginning at 8:00 am; call anytime to check on availability or to be placed on a cancellation list.
Age 60+:        Appointments available by calling anytime the clinics are open.
