Tobacco Cessation

Sault Tribe Nicotine Dependence Program

Every day, people quit using commercial tobacco, such as cigarettes, chew, hookah, and vapes.  Today, there are more former tobacco users than current tobacco users.

If you are ready to quit, contact:

  • The Sault Tribe Nicotine Dependence Program at (906) 632-5210.
  • Your local Tribal Health Center.
  • 1 (800) QUIT-NOW, a free telephone support service that provides access to several types of cessation information and services.

What is the Nicotine Dependence Program?

  • A personalized program designed to help you quit using commercial tobacco products (cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes, hookah, etc.).
  • A program that includes staff who have been trained specifically in the area of nicotine addiction (Tobacco Treatment Specialists) who will meet with you one-on-one to develop and maintain a quit plan.
  • The program will provide you with the tools and support you need to successfully quit using commercial tobacco products.

Who is Eligible?

  • Sault Tribe Members
  • Members of other Federally Recognized Tribes
  • Sault Tribe Employees and their dependents with health insurance
  • Other patients with insurance coverage who utilize Sault Tribe Health Services

Things to Remember:

  • All patients must be established with a Sault Tribe medical provider and must have been seen in the past six months.
  • In some cases, health insurance will be billed and co-pays and deductibles may apply.

What does the Program Include?

  • An individual appointment with a Tobacco Treatment Specialist to help you make a quit plan that is customized for you.
  • Access to tobacco cessation medications that can help you quit for good.
  • Planning and problem solving to help you overcome obstacles and healthily cope with lifestyle management of habits, stress, and triggers.
  • Follow-up support and encouragement to ensure continued cessation success.
  • Customized education surrounding pertinent health topics, such as stress management, physical activity, healthy nutrition, and self-care.

  • Talk to a Sault Tribe Healthcare provider. Any provider can refer you to the Nicotine Dependence Program.
  • Contact the Nicotine Dependence Program directly by calling your local Sault Tribe Health Center.
