Radiology & Ultrasound

The Medical Imaging Department provides X-rays, Mammography, and Ultrasound imaging services for eligible patients. We are accredited through the American College of Radiology and are certified by the FDA under the Mammography Quality Standard Act.

The ordering Physician or Practitioner provides a written or electronic request for the exam desired. If the patient was seen at the Sault Tribe Health Center, they can go directly to Radiology for same-day services for X-rays and Mammography. If the patient was seen on a different day or has an order from an outside provider (Cardiologists, Gynecologists, Orthopedists, etc.), we request patients to call Radiology’s direct line at (906) 632-5237 to make an appointment.  After the exam is completed, the images are read by a Radiologist, and the report is furnished to the ordering provider. The provider will contact the patient with the results of the exam and treatment options. If a patient is referred to another physician, the images can be burned onto a CD or electronically viewed by outside providers.     

Ultrasound imaging is also available at our facility by appointment only. We provide ultrasound services approximately 2 days a week. Many ultrasound exams require certain preparation, and detailed instructions will be given when a patient calls to make an appointment. Appointments can be made by calling the Radiology Department at (906) 632-5237.

We also provide high-quality digital imaging and 3D mammography exams. The 3D mammography unit detects significantly more breast cancers compared to 2D alone.  The 3D scan time is designed to minimize compression time and increase accuracy to detect breast cancer. We encourage screening mammograms for early detection of breast cancer.
