Candace Dennis is a proud daughter of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and a graduate of LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, MI. Candace attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2004. Subsequently, Candace chose to put her personal philosophies into action by continuing her education at Boston University where she earned a Master of Social Work in May of 2009. Candace promptly moved from the east coast back to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where she began her career in public service at Pathways Community Mental Health. She has been an outpatient behavioral health therapist for the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians at the Munising Tribal Health Clinic since June 2013. Candace’s behavioral health treatment philosophy is rooted in Logotherapy and Motivational Interviewing.  She is a person centered therapist who specializes in the use of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy models. Candace is trained in Trauma Focused CBT and strives to offer trauma informed treatment within individual, family and cultural contexts. When not in the office, Candace can be found working beside her husband in a flower or vegetable garden, either chasing after her children or her chickens, sometimes both.

The Sault Tribe Behavioral Health Program offers a variety of culturally sensitive outpatient services, including but not limited to: Intake and Assessment; Individual, Couples, Family, and Group Therapy; Psychological Evaluations; Psychiatric Evaluation and Follow-up Care; Crisis Intervention/Urgent Care; Enhanced Outpatient for Substance Use Disorders; Compulsive Gambling Counseling; Auricular Acupuncture; Continuing Care Counseling; Alcohol/Drug Education and Awareness; and Home-Based Parenting Education.
